Totally Insane Engine Makes Over 5000 Horsepower And You’ve Probably Never Heard Of It

In the long list of engines that you’ve likely never heard of, apart from this insane Mercury engine, this one is probably near the top of the list.

The Devel Sixteen is one of those cars that’s legendary, but isn’t widely known. It was a car built in Dubai that came to the community with much, shall we say, skepticism. And rightfully so. With looks that only a circular saw could love, the D16 has angles upon angles with more angles to go with it’s angles. Also, it’s angular. Did I mention the angles? I’m pretty sure I did.

Angles.

Here’s the moment it was revealed to not much fanfare at the Dubai Motor show back in 2013.

While the car itself and its figures (especially the 0-60 in 1.8 seconds), are controversial, the engine is something that many people don’t know about at all. When it was revealed, as we saw above, the car was claimed to have 5000+ horsepower. That seems a bit unbelievable right? Well, turns out they actually dyno tested the car.

It did not disappoint.

The specs read: 12.3 Liter V16 engine, 81 mm Quad Turbo, 32 Titanium Valves, Sixteen Cylinder One Billet Block, Devel Sixteen Cylinder Heads, One Billet Cam Shaft, One Crank Shaft, rated over 5000 Horsepower.

The dyno test topped out at just over 4500 horsepower, so that 5000hp rating doesn’t seem so far fetched.

The car however, still hasn’t made a road appearance or a test appearance. Until then all we know is that they’ve created one of the most monsterous engines ever conceived for almost no reason.

How depressing/awesome.
